2009 Sichuan Counselling Training Camp
At the Nanchong Church 30/4- 5/5/2009
All the group leaders and the companion supporters felt that we did not just come here to teach and help but we ourselves had been blessed by the love and support of the participants. Many group leaders who have language difficulties ended up finding no problem at all to manage effective communication with the group members with an open heart. Then the meeting was flooded with deep emotional sharing by the other participants all expressing great relief of life long burden and the joy and love experienced in the new found relationship amongst group members. A lot of tears were shed but not with sadness but rather with joy of a new relieved life free of burden. The Spirit had really amazing work to turn 12 members to the Lord either in the small group work shop session or in the final concluding session. The program ended on a high note with Rev Wang of the Nanchong Church extending invitation for the group to come again in August. We all sang praise to God for this unexpectedly successful result of softening the hearts of almost half of the class of non-believers. They all showed keen interest in knowing more about God even for those who have not yet received Christ.
After the meeting, which finished very late, a small group of five made a decision to make a small sacrifice by walking back to the hotel so that the rest of the group could go back just by one lift without the problem of overloading as we had experienced the night before, which was unlawful and could cause grieve consequence on insurance if any accident happened. It showed the true character of faithfulness to be a law abiding person giving glory to God. The feeling of walking in the middle of the night on an almost empty street was weird but satisfying. Haven’t the course of emotion management also appeals us to slow down our pace to have an impartial look of our inner self? Walking on the street rather than riding on the car gave us a different perspective of the same hasty journey to and from the hotel to the church. To me, this Sichuan Counselling Training Camp also gave me a different perspective of my life journey as a Pastor, a father, and a husband.
Thanks you God, Thanks you all, my dear companions in Christ.
On the last day before we depart to the airport, the feeling of newly formed bond of friendship hadn’t sunk in yet with those Education Teacher Students. They persuaded us to pay a visit to their School early in the morning before we rushed to catch our plane at Chengdu . Their friendship were so genuine from the bottom of their hearts that, they really missed us as such they could take the trouble to find time to make a group photo of their own with signatures of them all. It was presented one each to all of us as a means for keeping the fond memory about them alive in our heart until we (or some of us) meet again in August.
We were urged many times by the coach driver to set off or else we will risk missing the flight. Finally the moment of bidding farewell eventuated.
We had our final debriefing on the coach. Everyone was so excited about this life changing experience. One common consensus was that the whole program was blessed and led by the Spirit all along making us work together complementing each other despite we never work as a group before. I really would like to attribute this to the power of prayers particularly the morning corporate prayers of the Nanchong church led by Rev Wang. The reaction of the participants especially the non-believers showed great contrast between the first 2 days and the last day. We were once almost convinced that the non-believers were too rational and stone heart for any change at all. But our loving kindness almighty God did show His true colour and the power of changing life. Glory be to God.
